You know them. In our techie world, no doubt you’ll once again be one when the next “cool social networking thingy” comes out. Recognize these folks?
~ The person who just joined this century and got on Facebook. Posting every 15 seconds, she has bags under her eyes and carpal tunnel in her wrists, but – can’t – stop – Facebooking.
~ The friend who officially tweeted her first tweet after spending 3 hours trimming the paragraph of what she wanted to say into 140 characters or less. She hopes to spend only 2 hours on her second tweet. Progress!
~ And…horror of horrors!…the BFF who doesn’t even know what Pinterest is. WHAT?!? (I thought that those people were just urban legends, but no! They exist!)
Yes, we’re talking about the Newbs. Or the Noobs. (Or the Newbies?)
However you spell it, they’re the new kids on the block (80’s reference to music aside!) in the age of the techie.
You know what is fun about newbs?
Like ‘em or not, they are a passionate lot! Passionate about asking questions. Passionate in seeking answers. Passionate about sharing their newfound knowledge and excitement with the world.
The same can be said for the newbs in Christ.
Sure, they don’t know Chris Tomlin from Chris Rock. Yes, they still think sharing their testimony is something they do for a lawsuit in court. But, they have a raw faith and energy that is incredible. I don’t think Christ was talking to the newbs when he said, “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!” (Rev 3:15)
A lukewarm newb? I don’t think so!
What opportunities for growing closer to God this week do you see for yourself by looking at these newbie traits?
- Passionate about asking questions.
- Passionate in seeking answers.
- Passionate about sharing their newfound knowledge and excitement with the world. (Love this one!)
