Hello FLT readers! Today we want to share a very special friend, mentor and woman of God with you today. Her name is Becky and she writes a blog called Friends and Family for LIFE.Come read how Becky is resting beside still waters right now…
When I heard that Fancy Little Things’ topic for July is water, my mind started to spin. When Aimee offered me the opportunity to share what is in my spinning mind, I had to go for it. I’m on a journey beginning and continuing with water.
I am a woman in my fifties who was a nurse and then blessed to be a stay- home mom. I have 3 terrific kids who are grown and making me proud. I was at a place of wondering what I should be doing in this stage of my life. Ephesians 2:10 says that “We are God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus to do good works which He planned in advance for us to do”. The “good works” part was a no-brainer for me, but the “planned in advance” part gave me cause to think. What is it that God has planned in advance for me to do? I’m pretty sure there are different things during different stages of life. My first calling was to be the best wife and mother I could be and to raise my kids to love the Lord.
I believe now that I have a second calling and that step by step the Lord has been bringing me to this place. My husband and I have had opportunity to go on a number of third world medical missions trips. (Haiti, Jamaica, Kenya and Zambia) We have been exposed first hand to the impact that unsanitary water has on individuals and whole communities. I was reading a story recently in a World Vision magazine that followed a young Kenyan woman for 24 hours. 8 hours a day were spent hauling water from a dirty river, miles away from her village. The same river where people were bathing, washing clothes, animals were drinking and going to the bathroom. She had been doing this for years knowing that the water would make her family sick…but that’s all she had to offer. World wide a child dies every 20 seconds from this kind of water.
But this is where the journey brightens. I was enjoying a long soak in the tub last November, watching the water go down the drain when it hit me that I had to do something. With the Lord’s help, “Friends and Family for LIFE” was birthed. Together we have raised funds for the drilling of a deep-water well in Naluwe Zambia and we are well into our second. The goal is 10. And this is where I will choose to “Rest beside still waters”, trusting that God will finish what He began.

About Becky: I am a 58 year old woman who was a nurse, and was blessed to be an at-home mother of 3 kids who are now adults. I am a Believer who knows that the Lord can use this time in my life to accomplish what He pleases if I let Him and don’t get caught up in whether it makes sense in the moment. I love God, my family, photography, ball-room dancing and Edy’s Drumstick ice cream. I like that you bothered to check this out and hope you have caught well-fever with me.
