You may not think that capturing the every day moments is worthwhile. I mean, as women/moms we tend to do mostly the same things, day in and day out. As I am writing this, I am in the same comfy clothes I wore yesterday, covered in drool from Kenley and yogurt that Brayden accidentally got on my pants earlier. Not exactly photo worthy, right?
But this photo? Shows the everyday.
Just my sister, my parent’s dog, Gus, and Brayden playing outside. Nothing terribly special, right? But what happens a long time from now when something happens to Gus? This photo will be such a treasure to Brayden, because him and Gus are buddies.
Now, I am not saying that you have to think about death or another sad event when you have your camera out- it should be fun to be behind the lens! But it really takes on a new meaning when you think about how much those photos will mean 5, 10, or even 25 years from now. They will definitely be treasured.
Nothing terribly special. Our couch cushions don’t make the nicest of backdrops, his eyes have a little red in them, etc. But this was one of Brayden’s first EVER smiles, and I will always, always treasure this photo, even though it’s nothing too fancy.
Sometimes, I dig out our wedding albums (they are out of reach from little hands) and I flip through the pages and just relive that day.
These photos are treasures to me because our wedding day was one of the best days of my entire life. And someday, our kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids will treasure these wedding photos. It was important to me to have them put into these albums the way they are so that they last for years and years to come.
I will admit, I have printed photos that are stacked away in a drawer, waiting to be organized. It seems like such a daunting task that I will NEVER get done. But I am SO happy that my mom and dad took the time to organize my baby photos, so I feel like I owe it to my kids to do the same. To write their age on the back of the photo so that someday when they have their own children, they can compare their baby’s photos to their baby photos.
With growing technology, a lot of people are saving their photos digitally- myself included! I absolutely love doing digital photo books and not having a LOT of prints to organize. But don’t be afraid to print a few and tuck inside a photo album from time to time. Your families might thank you later.
