In keeping with this month’s theme of being a work in progress, I have a confession to share with you all. I am terrible at backing up my photos. Terrible.
And as a photographer, I am SURE that this is a GIANT no no. It has to be!
SO– I am going to share with you my way of organizing my digital photos so that it doesn’t become TOO overbearing!
4 Easy Steps to Organizing your Photos
1. Have a folder on your computer titled “Photos”.
2. When you import new photos into your computer, organize your photos by month.
3. Buy an external/portable hard drive.
4. Every few months, move photos from your computer to your portable hard drive.
This method works for me because at the end of the year (if I have REALLY been procrastinating) I only have 12 folders of photos to organize further (if I choose) or load into my portable hard drive. 12 folders is MUCH more manageable! Sometimes, when I import new photos from big events, like the kids’ birthday, I make that it’s own folder. But for the most part, I try to stick with 12. It doesn’t look overwhelming and I like starting each year with a clean slate!
How about you? Do you have other foolproof ways of organizing your digital photos? Are you a procrastinator?
