For the past 3 weeks, my mom, sister and I have been doing a women’s Bible study at church called Loving Well by Beth Moore. It is no coincidence that the focus of this study is the theme verse for this month at Fancy Little Things. God is clearly trying to teach me something.
In this study, Beth Moore talks about the 4 types of people in our lives who we are called to love.
1. Joy– the people who are easy to love, who make our world joyful.
2. Testy– the people who test your ability to love, those who are hard to love.
3. Foes– people you want to hate even though you know God is calling you to love them.
4. Strangers– people who are not involved in your everyday life.
Are you intrigued yet? The Lord has really been pressing on me with this study! It is HARD to love the testy people in your life, the foes, and the strangers. But yet the Bible tells us that we can love anyone through anything because God loves us. (Phillippians 4:13).
Here is the real kicker to all of this: We will not love well until we feel well loved. Read that again. If we are growing in Christ, we are growing in love, and THAT, my friends, is key. I think this is what the Lord has been pressing on me ever since this study started. How can I love well when I am not loving others well OR growing in Him? I can’t. But I can lean on Him and know that God is perfect love, and through him, I can love anything through anything.
Powerful stuff, right?
And to be honest, I am not loving others well. I am not loving better than I did a year ago, or five years ago. Relearning the fact that God loves me NO matter what because HE is perfect love has been a turning point for me, and I hope that my relationships begin to change in a powerful way.
In case you were wondering, we are doing the journal with the videos, and if you are looking for a great, 4 week study, I highly recommend the journal!
