“18While he was saying this, a synagogue leader came and knelt before him and said, “My daughter has just died. But come and put your hand on her, and she will live.” 19 Jesus got up and went with him, and so did his disciples. Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak. 21 She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment.” Matthew 9:18-22
Can you imagine how many directions Jesus was pulled in? When I finally get a moment to sit and reflect on my own day with the many twists and turns and demands on my time and attention I get exhausted just thinking about it.
To say Jesus was busy is an understatement. He went from town to town he traveled by foot or boat. Can you imagine? Sometimes I feel like my driving time is the only “me time” of the day. Jesus didn’t have that. Everywhere he went he was sharing the good news. He healed the sick, raised the dead, brought hope to the hopeless, offered encouragement to the lost, trained and mentored disciples. He never complained. Never boasted. Never made demands. He was pure love and he offered pure love freely to everyone.
When I think about it this way and then go back and look at Matthew 9:22, I can’t help but fall even more in love with Him. Jesus was on his way to raise a man’s daughter from the dead when out of nowhere a woman who was bleeding profusely reaches out from the crowd as Jesus passes by to merely get a touch of his robe knowing she will be healed if she does. What happened next is a beautiful testiment to Jesus’ character and genuine love for us. First, he stopped. Stopped what he was doing to then turn toward the woman. Then he spoke to her… he validated her as his precious daughter, and then affirmed her efforts of faith in reaching out to touch him. Finally, he wrapped it all up by confirming that she is in fact healed and it was because of her faith and her steps of faith that brought about her healing. When Jesus spoke these affirming words her healing was complete.
“Be encouraged daughter… your faith has healed you.”
Wow! That’s a lot of love to get in in just a few short moments… but that is precisely what Jesus did and what he still does today. Regardless of the millions of people out there needing his attention he always has time for you. You are his precious daughter after all. Regardless how deep your wounds are or how “damaged” you feel our God is a BIG God and he loves you. Plain and simple. He loves you. He sees your need and he hears your cry. Press through the crowd knowing that once you touch the mere hem of his robe the need(s) that you bring to him will be answered. He always has time for you; his beautiful daughter.
