Spring is here and it’s the season to see advertisements like “Get that Bikini body in 6 weeks!” on magazine covers or social media sites. Once upon a time those covers never really bothered me. I mostly just ignored them. Five years ago I started a journey of trying to lose those un wanted 5o pounds that I gained with my first child. Over the years God has taught me to love my body for what it is and not what the world thinks it should be. Now I find those messages the world sends to females distasteful.
God wants us to be seeking him first and not the number on the scale! It’s just like marriage where you seek God first before all else as a couple than other things. When you are trying to lose weight I encourage you to do it in a pleasing way before the Lord.
Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans. -Proverbs 16:3
First and foremost pray about it, rather your trying to get in shape or trying to lose a few pounds. Ask the Lord for guidance as you go about this journey.
Secondly, eat! Yes you read right, I did tell you to eat. Find a healthy life style that fits you. For me I usually do some sort of shake in the morning and then try to make healthy meals. I like using recipes from Trim Healthy Momma in my meal planning. It’s simple and healthy for this momma. God put food on earth to nourish us, it’s just when we over indulge that the poundage happens.
Thirdly, exercise. I used to be one of those people who loved the couch and tried to lose weight with out exercising but God showed me that my body needs it. As parents you need to build up your muscles. It does not matter if you are in the season of lifting toddlers all day or the season of running after teenagers your body needs strength to keep up with those busy children. I personally love walking because I can take my children with me. I’m in the season of life that I need to fit in working out with the kiddos.
Fourth, hide the scale! Yes you read right, stop the weekly weigh in and go by how your cloths fit.
My hope for you is that you will be inspired to seek God before the number on the scale. Today I leave you with a true beauty tip from I’m No Angel: From Victoria’s Secret Model to Role Model by Kylie Bisutti, Live to Please God, Not People.
