One of my favorite things, like I mentioned in my post about freshening up your décor, is free printables. I came across this lovely chalkboard style freebie from caravanshoppe.com. I adore the message! Rather than just print it out though, I decided to experiment with transferring it to a canvas. This process is so simple, yet magical! The end result has a fabulous vintage-found-in-the-attic look that I love. Let’s get started!
Materials needed include your image printed on plain old copy paper with a laser printer, modge podge, brush, canvas, and a spray bottle with water. Keep in mind, if you are using word art like I am here, but you will need to print out a reverse image to read it correctly. You can do this on www.picmonkey.com quite easily.
Brush the canvas with a healthy dose of the modge podge, with the picture side down onto the front of the canvas. Let it dry.
Once dry, spritz the back side of your image with water.
Once the paper is saturated, start peeling and rubbing the paper off.
This can be a little messy and I find that a wash cloth is helpful to get all the bits off.
Keep rubbing! You can see that as the paper is removed, the ink stays!
Rub, rub, rub until all the paper residue has disappeared and your free printable is revealed.
Place your lovely new addition somewhere for you to enjoy! Also, Mother’s Day is coming up this weekend–this would be a wonderful gift to a special mom in your life!
