Do you know those times…have you had those times…in your walk with God when you’re confronted with yourself? There isn’t a major life circumstance necessarily. There’s only deepening in relationship with Him, coming closer to His heart, closer to the Holy One.
In coming closer, His holiness shines brighter on you and reveals more of your sin nature. A keen awareness of a specific area of your life comes into focus and God begins the sanctifying, the pruning, the purifying work of uprooting that sin. It may even be things in which you were previously unaware.
That’s happening with me. When the waves of pride crash over me, even if I fall down or succumb to them, even when I feel like I’m in over my head, Jesus is faithful.
I’m bowled over by how faithful He is. When we backslide, when we don’t listen, when we play the harlot, He is still with us, loving us, pursuing us.
“Faithful is He Who is calling you [to Himself] and utterly trustworthy, and He will also do it [fulfill His call by hallowing and keeping you].” 1 Thessalonians 5:24 (AMP)
I have so much to be thankful for, and in this season of Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching, despite the pains of rooting something out, my awe is attuned to our Yahweh Shammah, meaning “The Lord is there.” I also think of Immanuel, “God with us.”
This year, when I think of “the reason for the season,” picturing baby Jesus in the manger, my breath catches in my throat and a lump swells as I reflect on how Him coming to earth is part of His ultimate plan of faithfulness to humanity. Friends, we are loved so much.
I’ve awaken two mornings in a row now with a song called, “Faithful,” running through my head. Part of God’s faithfulness to me is the gift of song in which my heart can meditate.
In spite of our sin, our attitudes, or our failures, Jesus is there. He meets us where we are and loves and accepts us. He will woo us back to Himself and work with us to His will and purpose. He is with us, always.
Jesus, we come to You broken and sometimes drowning unaware. Please fill us with your Spirit. Open the eyes of our hearts to see and hear You. Wrap Your loving arms around us and let the gravity of your faithfulness settle in our souls. Thank You for calling us, hallowing us, and keeping us. Keep our hearts in awe of You, craving You, and running to You. Thank you for loving us beyond what our human minds can fathom. We love You. Amen.
