Ok, so I kinna feel like a fraud writing all that hair seeing as I am in the process of growing out a pixie and can only do lopsided pigtails. Word to the wise: lopsided pigtails are ONLY cute on 5 year olds! LOL!
But, judging from the requests I got to do a post on hair do’s, I am guessing most of you hve some length to play with.
When I had long hair, one of my absolutely favorite things to do with it was braid it. I was braidin’ long before Katniss Everdeen made it hip to do a side braid! (total geek moment refering to the Hunger Games and all!)
Anyway, I absolutely love to do an inverted french braid. That’s basically when the french braid is turned inside out so you can see the braid:
INVERTED FRENCH (DUTCH) BRAID
This is A LOT easier to do then it looks. I learned how to do this waaaay back in the day when I was in high school. I would do a video or tutorial for y’all, but there’s the whole hair issue (aka, the aforementioned pixie). BUT, I did find a tutorial I like for you! Here’s the link , you can also search it on Youtube under “inverted french braid” or “dutch braid”. This style is particularly good for hot summer days. Chic-er than a pony and just as easy!
TOP KNOT
The next hair do I really like doing is the infamous Top Knot. But this comes with a warning. PLEASE if you do the top knot make sure you make it a big full bun and your hair is neat-ish. Not super tight or slicked back, but not messy and with a nice full bun on top. (btw, to achieve the full bun all you need iss a sock! The greatest secret to the top bun!) If you try to pull it off by just kinna doing a regular bun on top of your head it looks to thin and small (unless you’ve been blessed with a whole bunch of gloriously full hair…than w.e ok, you’re awesome and I’m jealous. lol!) and just plain MESSY. Also, don’t bring it too forward, that look works on a runway but looks awkward in real life. And lastly, wear make up when you do this. I don’t mean cake the foundation on, but mascara, some light blush and for goodness sake some lip color! I have seen girls who constanntly go for this with no make up on and it’s not a good look. You want the top knot to look effortless, but tidy. A little retro but thoroughly chic. And make up does that.
A great and quick picture tutorial can be found here.
BEACH WAVES
Another cute and easy look is going with waves! Wavy hair looks so romantic and so effortleess, as if you woke up and just look that dang fabulous naturally! The ONLY issue I have with the gorgeous very boho tres chic wavy hair look is that is gets to HOT in the harshh summer sun. And tthen you gett all sweaty. And humidity and sweat and heat equalss a head full of frizz! But If you get the right product (a topic all of it’s on cuz I can go oon and on about that too!) and you don’t mind all the work, I say go for it. I looks awesome!
And a great tutorial for that beautiful style can be found here.
HEAD SCARF
And lastly, one of my personal favs, no matter the length of your hair is using a head scarf. LOVE LOVE LOVE the head scarf! Seriously is anything else as easy as a head scarf. And it’ss so very old hollywood! I think it lends an air of playfulness, and mystery, boldness (onlyy the gutsy will do this without feeling all weird…lol!) and yes, it is too, very chic.
Seriously, you don’t really need a tute but here’s one anyway: link
There’s a MILLION other styles I love, but these are my top favs when I’ve got the hair to play with! If you wanna see more ideas, visit my HAIR DO’S pinterest board! This weekend be adventurous and try something new with your hair! May feel weird at the time, but you’ll love playing around and finding new ways to do your do!
Hope you enjoyed this post! “See” you next week!
