i love being an entrepreneur. i work from home while designing in work out clothes. my work hours are during nap time and bedtime. i say “yes” to some and say “no” to others. i control the direction. the path. i manage the hours invested and the financial return. i am woman. hear me ROOOAR!
my daily work of designing graphics, brands, websites and customizing social media for clients is by far the best job i’ve ever had and i wouldn’t trade the job or control over my productivity, for anything. but without a whole lot of drive, determination, passion, focus and an incredible support team and community, this would not be possible.
do you get that feeling that you should venture out on your own? do you have notebooks full of ideas? eager to transition from working for the MAN to SELF? i’m offering some tips + a few little stories to help you answer this questions. on being an Entrepreneur.
know your market. if your dream is to own a pizza shop – you might be searching cities high & low looking for the perfect place to drop that pizza shop. perhaps instead you align your ideas with the needs in your community or marketplace. my mom opened a consignment shop while i was in grade school. in the middle of nowhere –>> meaning: there were NO shops around. her business bloomed quickly because she knew our community. she put money back into the pockets of the consignors & clothed people on a small budget.
an idea. a simple little idea. a unique concept. an idea that will show people a different and better way of doing things. an updated thought process. yes, this is all it takes. sounds hard? no – not really. let’s take Evernote Essentials for example. brett kelly wrote a book on how to use Evernote. when i read his story i had a DUH! moment. the concept seems so simple and yet this guy had the idea and the execution and reaping the incredible rewards. watch his interview here.
determination. turning an idea on a scrap note sheet into something feasible or tangible takes fearless, straight forward gumption. the kind that you grab down deep when you’re running suicide presses in high school basketball. you just do it. you make your legs step one foot in front of the other. nothing is going to stop this and whoever stands in your way will get boxed out. i was raised by two entrepreneurs… fearless determination is inherent in my blood.
follow through. i love a good idea. i have lots of them. if you ever have an hour and just want to listen to me blabber on and on about all of my ideas, call me. i can always use another set up ears! these ideas mean NOTHING without a plan. an execution. a follow through. when you set something into motion set some goals & deadlines for yourself. work towards them feverishly. wrap your life around your idea until you’re ready to launch it. {“you can sleep when you die.” @japster24}
passion. you cannot get through the previous 4 without this. be fueled by passion. wake each morning with a hunger for more. keep a notebook or index cards and a pen stashed everywhere. do what you love. love what you do. if you stop loving your direction – then change it and sail a new way. your passion will drive success. people will buy from you or hire you for your determination, your follow through and that glowing smile.
as you read this post perhaps some of those hidden ideas came to the forefront. hidden gems. little nuggets that you tucked away for “someday”. let that day be today. get out your notebook and jot down some serious ideas. set goals. reach out to a mentor in the field. we’re ready for you — take it by storm and become an Entrepreneur.
