spring is in the air!
march 10th is the end of daylight savings and our days get longer.
march 20th marks the first day of spring and the days will get warmer.
i know here in california, we will still see another round of winter weather but the sunshine we’re seeing now, makes me think of gardening, flip flops and bright colors.
while it’s still too cold for skirts, i’m dreaming of warm spring days.
spring brings the desire for fresh things and new growth. just like the bible talks about in isaiah.
The desert and the parched land will be glad;
the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.
Like the crocus, it will burst into bloom;
it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.
Isaiah 35:1-2a
but even though the reality of a fresh new spring wardrobe may not be in the budget, we can use bright colors to give us that sense of newness that we long for. you can burst into bloom with any of these outfits.
one // white + bright
pairing white with any bright solid makes for a super clean and spring look. it doesn’t have to be this color (but i am partial to it these days) and it doesn’t even have to be a whole piece + accessories. use what you have. start with the basics and add a couple pops of color.
two // pink + polka dots
if you’ve learned anything from me over the time i’ve been at FLT, you’ll know i’m a sucker for polka dots. especially black and white polka dots. so find yourself something with this very vintage and classic pattern and throw on a bright solid flat and you’re good to go. no matching required!
three // keep it neutral
take advantage of neutrals being in love. it’s completely acceptable for white, grey and tan to be found in the same outfit. no major pop of color needed here, the simplicity speaks for itself.
four // for the love of layers
layering is the best way to get small pops of color into your outfit without feeling like a stick of cotton candy. it’s also an opportunity to take an outfit from warm midday to cooler spring night. the scarf would still be cute without the black long sleeve top and the flats and jeans can be worn in many weather situations.
five // work it out
peep toes are still cute and professional. structured pencil skirts are back. the new style of women’s dress shirts are super flattering. and with a color combo like this, you can be confident that spring will be with you wherever you go.
your homework for the month: dress yourself gorgeous. dress yourself for God. dress yourself for a smile. whatever you dress for, just get dressed.
