My heart breaks for hurting marriages.
They are everywhere. You don’t have to look far to find one. Within your relatives. In your circle of friends. Across the street. Maybe only as far as across the room.
Today, I want to say to every hurting marriage out there, there is hope.
No matter how hopeless it seems.
I’ve watched God turn my hopeless marriage completely around. I’ve heard stories of Him doing it for countless others. And He can do it for yours too.
Our theme verse for this month comes from Philippians 3…
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind andstraining toward what is ahead
The NIV version says “straining”. Why couldn’t is say “skating towards”, right? Straining is so hard. So painful. So long. So not what we like.
We want easy. We want fast. We want painless.
And marriages are anything but that.
But, on the other side of the strain, the pain….that is where God puts the blessing. That is what lies ahead…
the blessing.
the healing.
the goal.
that which Christ Jesus took hold of for us.
new life.
Dear friends, forget what lies behind in the wreckage of your relationship past (we all have it). Strain towards what lies ahead for your marriage (we can all achieve it).
Dear Lord, meet this dear reader right where they are today. Light that spark of hope in their soul for their marriage. Set their eyes ahead to the blessing you have in store for them. Strengthen them for the straining required to achieve it.
