I will admit, I am the first person to be timid about pattern mixing with my clothes. It’s sometimes tough to do, and I am brainwashed in a matchy match kind of way. I have been branching out and fall is my favorite time of year to pattern mix. Tons of options, even if you want to ease into it. I’m here to help!
One: Choose prints with different proportions.
Pair something simple, like a small dot, with something bold, like a plaid or a stripe. This keeps it easier on the eyes, and if you stay within the same color family, it will be a classy, fun look!

Two: Start with a scarf!
The easiest way to start mixing patterns is to start by using scarves. I have a LOT of them, so this is my favorite way! Start with a neutral top and add a pop of color or texture. If you are feeling more brave, start with a patterned top and add a neutral scarf. The possibilities are endless.

Three: Stay within the same color family.
This doesn’t mean that all of your patterns must be blue, but choose a scheme to help tie in your outfit. Neons, jewel tones, hues of blue… you name it! Cohesiveness will help ease your fears about pattern mixing, and you may find that you have a LOT of patterns in your closet that you never thought about wearing together!

Start in your closest and see what you have to start with! Then, don’t be afraid to buy a great patterned cardigan or plaid button down to tie in what you already have! It doesn’t have to be overwhelming if you start small and work your way up to something really bold!
