My family just returned from our annual vacation in the Adirondack Mountains. We rent a cottage in a lovely community that sports a beautiful, little beach on Fourth Lake. It is a rare thing during this season of my life that I have any prolonged time to sit with my feet up, soaking in sunshine and pondering some things about life, but the beach (and the help of my husband manning our troops for a while) allowed that wonderful blessing.
While I usually focus my posts on readers questions, this month I’ll be sharing with you the questions that I still wrestle with about marriage, such as…
I’ve watched my friends go through divorce. I’ve heard the stories of our parents’ marriages and what led them to divorce. So often, people with struggling marriages come to me since they know my passion for marriages. Do others stay away from my counsel, knowing my passion, when they think divorce is the only answer? It has made me wonder…when is divorce the answer?
We watched other couples on our vacation with marriages that spanned one decade to many. There are those marriages where you can still feel the love, passion and mutual respect they hold for each other. Marriages that are thriving. Then there are those that just seem to be surviving and unfortunately, these are more common. Why are there so many unhappy marriages?
It only took a trip to a waterpark to remind me of this question. Where did modesty go?
I’ve pondered these questions before, and each of them were presented on my mind once again during our vacation this week, and although I don’t have the answers for them, I’d love to share my thoughts and have you share yours. So, ponder with me and come back to share each Tuesday this month.
