ah, fashion trends.
you’d think i’d be ALL OVER them.
but no, i’m not as trendy as i seem.
you see, i don’t fall into the trendy trap very easily. i’m usually pushed there.
when skinny jeans first hit the scene i was completely against them. i thought they looked so weird and uncomfortable. i wore flares, that’s just how it was and how i was comfortable. and comfort is 90% of my style.
not that flares aren’t cute (they still are) but i always had this idea that skinnies made one look top heavy, like an upsidedown triangle.
as time progressed and i began to see them worn in more ways, they kinda grew on me. but between me and you, it look more than a year to jump on that horse.
so instead of dropping serious cash on a pair that i may not like, i made my own from jeans that needed some new life.
aaaaaand, i loved them!!
even with this experience, i still fear new trends.
“that looks good on her but i couldn’t pull it off.”
“i’m not THAT brave.”
but that fear hasn’t stopped me from pushing through and trying them anyways.
like this blazer from my gram. after taking out the shoulder pads, it was a trendy piece that made a statement.
and what about those colored tights. yet, i tried them out. didn’t LOVE this one, but it was fun!
i did love this combo and how all the textures and colors worked together.
but this summer, my silly trendy fear was a certain style of sandals.
you’ve seen them everywhere. and with every style of pants, skirts and shorts. and they’re super cute, right? so why was i so against them for so long? it’s the side foot. it really is too much exposed foot for me. no look, i love a simple old navy flip flop. i could wear them everyday and i have them in darn near every color they make. but this is different. and it feels different.
but when you add them to an outfit like this, all that fear just goes right out the window.
outfit deets:
plain white tee: walmart
mossimo skirt: target (hand me down a few years ago)
sandals: target clearance
necklace: handmade by me
watch: target
i think these little nuggets are here to stay.
YOUR HOMEWORK: get brave and face one trendy fear you have. just one. and it doesn’t have to be crazy. just have fun!
have a trendy week!
