For me, the fall season is about new beginnings. Most people do “spring cleaning”, but when fall hits, I have the itch to do allofthethings. Fall brings new schedules, new routines, and for me, more structure in our daily routine. So how do I get that “me time” that I so desperately need from time to time in the midst of more structure and busier schedules? It’s not easy– but here are a few tips to help you take the time to focus on YOU.
- Get up slightly earlier than normal. I know, I know. I mostly choose sleep two after wrangling my sweet kiddos all day! However, I find that getting up even 10 minutes earlier than I normally do gives me the time to just BE in the morning, and not feel as rushed. In fact, lately I have been getting up an HOUR earlier and going to the gym before my husband leaves for work. It feels good to get that time in, get a workout in, and feel more in control of my day.
- Prioritize. If I am spending all of my time chasing my tail, I get absolutely nothing done. I know at the beginning of a day WHAT I need to do, but HOW MUCH of it is actually crucial? Somedays, I just can’t do it all, so I figure if everyone has eaten and is wearing clean clothes, I can take a deep breath and try again tomorrow.
- Give yourself a time out. If you need 15 minutes at the end of the day to regroup, take it! Tell your hubby to get the kid’s pajamas on and let you just breathe a minute. Go for a walk. Lock the bathroom door. Anything you need to just rewind, regroup, and carry on.
- Grace. Give yourself grace. God gives us sufficient grace, so why don’t we give it to ourselves? Your house or meals do not have to be Pinterest worthy 100% of the time. Homes are to be lived in, clothes were made to be dirty, and you can’t prepare a meal without dirtying some dishes. I have had to tell myself this numerous times–give yourself grace. Your attitude, your reactions to people, and your parenting/marriage will thank you.
How do you make time for yourself in the midst of busy times? I would love to hear your tips and tricks!
