Hi friends!
I am falling in love with embroidery! Is that weird? I would have thought so not too long ago. In my head embroidery was fancy flowers and pillow covers. Then I discovered the world of modern embroidery and my mind was changed. I started with a simple project for my mom’s Christmas gift, and was absolutely hooked! There is something so good about a project you can get done in an evening or two! This is one of those projects.
Here is what you need:
- Burlap canvas (I got mine at Hobby Lobby)
- Embroidery floss
- Crewel needles (sharp tip, wide needle and eye…good for the burlap canvas!)
- Embroidery pattern of your choice. This one came from Wild Olive, my fave!
- Pellon Stick-n-Washaway or Stick-n-Tear printer sheets
Measure the opening on the back of your canvas. Make sure your pattern fits within that size.
Print your pattern out on your Pellon of choice, cut it out and add it to your canvas. Again, make sure it falls within the space you can use to stitch.
Now, plop down on the couch, turn on a movie or your favorite Netflix marathon, and get to stitching! I love the burlap canvas because it is the fabric and the “hoop” all in one! This canvas has a coating on the back of the burlap that keeps the threads from moving. That’s why I recommend a crewel needle. You will need the sharp tip and wide needle to be able to get your floss through without yanking on every stitch and wrecking the tips of your fingers (ask me how I know…)
This pretty little thing is dressing up my mantle right now but something like this would be great on a wall, too!
